The Dyson pre-motor filter is built to trap fine dust and debris before they reach the motor. This protection helps keep suction strong while also extending the life of the motor.
To keep your vacuum working at its best, the pre-motor filter should be cleaned on a regular basis. Simply tap it against a hard surface to loosen dust, then rinse it with warm water and allow it to dry for at least 24 hours before refitting.
Even with proper cleaning, filters do not last forever. As they age or become worn, their efficiency decreases. Dyson recommends replacing the pre-motor filter every 3 to 6 months, depending on how often the vacuum is used.
